Description

A Sutlej medal to Drummer Joseph Cockins, 31st Regiment of Foot, who was wounded in action at the Battle of Moodkee.

The medals has a number of contact marks, edge bruising and surface wear but all naming can be read clearly. Please see photos. 

Joseph Cockins was born in Cawnpore, India, and attested for the 31st (Huntingdonshire) Regiment of Foot on 6 July 1836. Appointed a Drummer on 13 June 1838, he served with the Regiment in the First Sikh War, and was wounded at the Battle of Moodkee on 18th December 1845. He was finally discharged on 23 February 1847, after 6 years and 286 days’ service.

Please note that Cockins is not recorded as having served at the Battle of Sobraon, and his name does not appear on the medal roll.
