Rowney Family WW1 Father & Son Medal Group – C.Sgt. S. Rowney, Royal Inniskilling Fus / Royal Irish Rifles & Cpl. S. Rowney, Royal Dublin Fus / Royal Irish Fus (The son was murdered after the war)

A first world war father and son medal group to the Rowney family from Belfast. The son was brutally murdered at the age of 63 whilst on duty as a nightwatchman.

Samuel Rowney was murdered at the age of 63 whilst working as a nightwatchman at Asia House, Princes Street, Manchester, which was a packing and shipping warehouse at the time.

The group comes with copies of newspaper articles relating to his death and the trial of the man who murdered him. Rowney was struck on the head with an iron bar and pushed down a lift shaft during a robbery.
