MID – 23rd February 1954 (for service in operations in Korean waters, HMS Birmingham)
MBE (Civil) – 11th June 1977 (Lieutenant Commander, R.N. (Retd), lately Retired Officer Grade II, Ministry of Defence)
Denny had an exceptional career going from Chief Yeoman of Signals to Lt Cdr in 14 years, holding a number of interesting appointments at HMS Mercury, Hong Kong, etc. and may well have been involved in Naval Intelligence work as a Communications Officer.
He was commissioned to Signal Boatswain (act’g) 18/6/45 and Commissioned Communications Officer 23/11/45. He was promoted to Lieutenant on the creation of the “Special Duties Lists” as from 1st January 1957. On 1/10/59 he was appointed Lietenant Commander (SD) and retired from the Royal Navy 11/4/62.
After retiring he was re-employed as a “Ret’d Officer” by the Ministry in a civilian “Retired” capacity due to his considerable communications expertise and was awarded an MBE (Civil) in 1977.
