The medals are in good condition.
London Gazette:
BEM – 29th June 1951 “For courage and great determination in dismantling a new type of mine found during operations in Korea.”
A new type of mine had been found by Americans. Unable to deal with it, Petty Officer Rowland along with two officers from HMS Charity were sent it and successfully dismantled it. Cecil Owen Rowland had served in the Navy for 15 years by then and was an expert on mines, torpedoes and depth charges.
