A rare Fighting Fourtieth Candahar 1842 medal awarded to Private John Murphy, H.M. 40th Regiment of Foot.
Candahar 1842 Medal named to Private John Murphy H.M. 40th Regiment
The medal is correctly engraved in running script, fitted with original steel clip and bar suspension. The steel slip and suspender are rusted and the medal has some minor edge knocks but overall the medal is in good condition. Please see photos.
John Murphy is confirmed on Gordon Everson’s reconstructed roll from The Fighting Fortieth at Candahar, as having been present during the defence of Candahar in early March 1842. Murphy was with the sick in the hospital and died there on 3rd April 1842. Also confirmed on Garry Farmer’s revised roll.
